I am an artist/illustrator based in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire with a lifelong passion for art. From a very early age it was clear what I was going to do.

I have a BA in Fine Art and an MA in Children’s Book Illustration. I work as a freelance artist with various schools, arts and youth organisations providing workshops in addition to producing my own work as an artist.

My practice has predominantly been painting, but I have always enjoyed trying out new materials and techniques. Subject matter aside, another big part of my practice has been the process of making… dripping, pouring and layering paint. Manipulating it in ways other than with a paintbrush to create the interwoven painted details and forms.

When I’m not up to my eyes in paint you will often find me surrounded by nature. Nature and animals are one of the biggest sources of inspiration to me.

I really enjoy sharing my love of art and creativity with other people and the exchange of ideas. I am looking forward to my trip down to Cornwall and Coffee Cake Create to see the beautiful Cornish coast and meet fantastic people.

I’ve always been passionate about writing and drawing since I was very young. I loved using my imagination to make up stories and create cards and gifts for my family. Then in 1998 a tiny, 7 week old bundle of West Highland fluff called Susie came into my life and that’s where it all began!

Originally the character of Susie started as an illustration on family birthday cards but after a while my husband suggested they would be good as children’s books. At first the stories were an ideal way of keeping a record of what we did together but soon I realised they were more than that so I started my business ‘SimplySusie by Beverley’. We had many happy times together and through my ‘Susie Series’ books you too will fall in love with my lovable Westie called Susie
